Fasliyev, the unbeaten champion juvenile of 1999, has died in Japan at the age of 16.
Raced by Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor, the son of Nureyev ran just five times, all during his two-year-old season, with two of his victories coming at Group 1 level, in the Phoenix Stakes and the Prix Morny. Retired to Coolmore in 2000, he became the champion first-season sire of 2003 with 34 individual winners to his credit.
Bred in America by Harold Harrison from the Mr Prospector mare Mr P’s Princess, Fasliyev stood his first season in Japan in 2010 at the Yushun Stallion Station, which is also home to the former Aga Khan representative Behkabad, and died on Monday from a “severe diaphragmatic hernia”.
Among Fasliyev’s leading performers are the King’s Stand Stakes winner Chineur, now standing at stud in France, Royal Lodge Stakes winner City Leader and Cheveley Park Stakes winner Carry On Katie, who is now the dam of the Group 3-placed Vocational.
