Enable will miss next week’s Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks after connections opted to give her the best chance of landing a historic third victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.

Her trainer John Gosden, speaking to the Racing Post, said: “The Eclipse, three weeks before the King George, was perfect timing as a prep race. The Yorkshire Oaks at over six weeks before the Arc does not suit nearly so well as the September Stakes.

“We have successfully used this before as a prep race in 2018. We did not wish to travel to Longchamp three weeks before the Arc for the traditional French trials and we only wished to run her once before the Arc.

“The attempt to win a third Arc is the only reason she stayed in training this year, hence this plan”

Saudi Cup prize-money for Maximum Security still withheld

The Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that it will be paying connections of placed horses from second to tenth in this year’s inaugural Saudi Cup but will continue to withhold the money earned by winner Maximum Security.

Maximum Security’s previous trainer Jason Servis is indicted on several charges relating to the use of performance-enhancing drugs that were announced by the FBI in March of this year.

In a statement the JCSA said: “The administration of PEDs is prohibited under the JCSA rules and the horseman’s guide to the Saudi Cup, to secure the integrity of racing and the welfare of racehorses.

“Prior to the race the JCS received no allegation and no indication that Maximum Security had ever been administered PEDs.

“However, as a result of the indictment the JCS received an objection to the participation of Maximum Security in the race. As a result of that objection and the indictment, the JCSA commenced its own investigation into the allegations which was notified to all connections of runners in the race, and to the wider public.

“That investigation remains ongoing but has been hampered by the Covid-19 crisis and the fact that the JCSA is not a party to the ongoing legal proceedings in the US. Therefore, unless and until the evidence that supports the sealed indictment in the US proceedings is placed in the public domain, that evidence is unavailable to the JCSA’s investigation and to any JCSA inquiry.

“The JCSA is bound to reach a fair and reasonable decision on the objection and circumstances of Maximum Security’s running in the race and it cannot do so without the consideration of relevant evidence that has been gathered by the prosecution authorities in the US proceedings in respect of the sealed indictment.

“Therefore, the JCSA cannot properly conclude its investigation and any inquiry by its stewards’ committee cannot be commenced without consideration of all relevant evidence including that gathered by the prosecution authorities in the US.”
