Owners and breeders of fillies in Britain will receive extra reward with the British Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme (BOBIS) planning to offer £10,000 prizes to the BOBIS-qualified winner of all Class 2 to 4 fillies-only races for two- and three-year-olds in Britain.

The owner of a fully qualified filly which wins a BOBIS race will receive £6,000 of the BOBIS prize-money, while the breeder who has registered the filly will receive £3,000 of the BOBIS prize. The remaining BOBIS prize-money will be shared between the winning trainer, jockey and stable staff.

The £10,000 prizes, which will be offered on 85 races, are an increase from the £6,000 prizes offered on the same races in 2013 and have been developed in liaison with the BHA to support the fillies’ race programme and encourage vendors to purchase fillies at the sales.

Louise Kemble, Chief Executive of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, said: “BOBIS has made a fantastic start in its first year. Providing enhanced BOBIS prizes for fillies was a TBA ambition from the outset, and I am delighted that the BHA and Levy Board have made a commitment to further supporting breeders both on the racecourse and in the sales ring.”

Over 860 races will carry BOBIS prizes in 2014, with a potential prize fund of over £5 million. Fully qualified colts and geldings will continue to receive £6,000 BOBIS prizes for winning all Class 2 to 4 maidens, nurseries, novice and conditions stakes for two-year-olds in Britain, and £6,000 prizes will also be awarded to the qualified winners of all Class 5 fillies-only maidens.

From 2014, £6,000 BOBIS prizes will also be awarded to the qualified winners of all Class 2 to 4 three-year-olds only maidens, conditions stakes and handicaps and all Class 5 fillies’ maidens in Britain. There is no limit to how many BOBIS prizes a horse can win at two and three.

Eligible yearlings can be registered for BOBIS before December 31 at a cost of £250. Owners must then pay a nomination fee of £275 before March 31, 2014 to fully qualify horses for the opportunity to win BOBIS prizes.
