Coronation Cup winner Pether’s Moon has retired to stud and will stand at David and Teresa Futter’s Yorton Stud for the 2016 season.
A consistent performer throughout four seasons for Richard Hannon, the five-year-old won seven of his 21 starts, culminating in his Group 1 triumph over Dolniya and Flintshire at Epsom. Pether’s Moon’s victories also included the Group 2 Bosphorous Cup and two Group 3 strikes in the Cumberland Lodge and Glorious Stakes at Goodwood.
The son of Dylan Thomas will be joined by Blue Bresil, who started his stud career at Haras de la Croix Sonnet in Normandy. A Group 2 winner on the Flat and Grade 2 winner over hurdles, Blue Bresil, by Smadoun, currently has four-year-old runners, including the Listed TBA Mares’ Bumper winner Babylone des Motte, who is trained in Ireland by Willie Mullins.
Yorton Stud owner David Futter commented: “It is our ongoing aim to build a stallion roster which appeals to both the commercial breeder and to those who breed for the love of National Hunt racing. We’ve been fortunate to secure two top-quality young stallions Pether’s Moon and Blue Bresil, who we hope will both have exciting futures and further extend the choice available to the British breeder.”
Gentlewave, Sulamani, Norse Dancer and Universal complete the roster for 2016 but Yorton Stud will lose one of its stallions for the forthcoming season with the relocation of Malinas to Glenview Stud in Ireland. He will stand alongside Shirocco, Robin Des Champs and Dubai Destination, the broodmare sire of this year’s Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn.
