Today’s racing

Chelmsford’s all-weather meeting today features a competitive fillies’ mile novice event with a field of 16 set to go to post.

Denford Stud homebred Agreed is one of three runners for John Gosden and the daughter of leading first-season sire Gleneagles boasts a strong pedigree.

She is out of the winning Darshaan mare Intrigued, herself out of Last Second who is in turn a daughter of Lanwades Stud’s foundation mare Alruccaba. Agreed is a half-sister to Kingman colt Private Secretary, winner of this year’s Listed Cocked Hat Stakes.

Gosden also sends out George Strawbridge’s homebred Lisbet, a daughter of Frankel out of the Grade 3-winning Ghostzapper mare Angel Terrace.

The trio of runners is completed by Reehaam, who has already run twice this season.

Owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer is represented by the William Haggas-trained Red Poppy, a daughter of Declaration Of War who is from the family of stakes performers Bronze Canon, Across The Stars and Valiance.

Kempton also stages an all-weather meeting today while there are jumps cards from Fakenham, Lingfield and Fairyhouse (Ireland).

Chantilly stages the Listed Prix Herod (7f) today and there is British representation in the shape of Milltown Star (Mick Channon), Cobra Eye (John Quinn) and Afraid Of Nothing (Ralph Beckett), while Chrysalism turns out for Joseph O’Brien.

Noel Wilson quits training

Financial reasons have meant that trainer Noel Wilson has been forced to quit training.

The County Durham handler has held a licence since 2000 and trained just under 200 winners in Britain.

Speaking to the Racing Post, Wilson said: “I’ve had a bit of a wake-up call and had the balls to get out before I’m pushed out, but I think there’s an awful lot of people like me.

“Nowadays the numbers are getting bigger and everybody wants to go to the bigger yards. A few years ago, I was in the middle tier, with winners at York and Chester and places like that. But the last five years have been very tough.”
