Today’s racing

After an impressive winning debut at August last year, Dear Power makes her first start of the season at Wolverhampton this evening.

Stepped up to the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury on her second start last year, the daughter of Acclamation disappointed when beaten 14 lengths by the winner Dark Lady.

Dear Power drops down to novice company today and looks ideally placed to secure a second victory of her career in the colours of King Power Racing.

Trained by Roger Varian, she will face ten rivals including the John Dance-owned Lovers Cry, who finished third on her debut at Lingfield in January.

Leopardstown race over jumps today while Wetherby’s card will have to pass an 8am inspection to go ahead.

Hughes restores lead

Brian Hughes returned to an 18-winner lead over title rival Richard Johnson with an all-the-way win on Baron De Midleton at Sedgefield on Sunday.

It was the first time the pair were facing each other since Johnson had recovered from a broken arm, which was sustained in a fall at Exeter at the end of January.
