Today’s racing
Solar Heights, already a three-time winner over a mile at Chelmsford City, returns to the Essex track today to contest the mile fillies’ conditions stakes for trainer James Tate and owner Saeed Manana.
The four-year-old daughter of Cape Cross, who will be ridden by PJ McDonald, was last seen finishing second in a handicap at Wolverhampton last month.
Tate said: “Solar Heights is in good form. Chelmsford is her favourite track – all of her wins have come there – and we are in the fortunate position that she is the top-rated runner in the race. Fingers crossed, if nothing goes wrong, she should have an obvious chance.
“I thought her first run back at Wolverhampton [finished fifth] was a bit disappointing, when things did not go her way. There was a keen horse that ran past her and lit her up a bit, but other than that I was not too sure what to make of it.
“I could not knock her latest start though – I thought she ran really well.”
The race, which is a qualifier for the All-Weather Championships Fillies and Mares’ contest, also features the last time out winner Ruby Gates, trained by John Butler, and the Linda Stubbs-trained Starlight Romance, who was beaten a neck earlier this month.
The only other racing action in Britain today comes from Leicester, which hosts a jumps card.
Meydan action
There are two Group events on Meydan’s card today with the Group 2 Balanchine Sponsored by Gulf News (1m1f) the feature.
A field of eight fillies and mares will line up including the Charlie Appleby-trained Magic Lily, who took the Group 2 Cape Verdi on her Dubai debut last month by a short-head from Nisreen, who joined trainer Hiroo Shimizu following John Hammond’s retirement and is again in opposition.
The Group 3 Firebreak Stakes (1m) has attracted a field of ten including the Satish Seemar-trained Secret Ambition, who went down by a short-head to Kimbear in the Group 2 Al Maktoum Challenge last month.
