Today’s racing

A precautionary inspection has been called for 8am this morning to see if Lingfield’s National Hunt card can go ahead. The meeting is under threat with low overnight temperatures and the risk of freezing fog.

Racing goes ahead at Southwell today, staging a seven-race jumps card, while there are all-weather fixtures from Dundalk (Ireland) and Wolverhampton.

Kent named Goffs UK Managing Director

Tim Kent has been appointed Managing Director of Goffs UK and will begin his new role on January 1.

Kent succeeds Tony Williams, who is joining Aquis Farm in Australia and has been with Goffs UK since 2016. His new position will see him move to Goffs UK’s headquarters in Scotland having previously been based in Lambourn since 2011.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said: “Tim was the outstanding candidate for the role and brings a unique combination of youth and experience to the position.

“Over the years he has demonstrated a passion, drive and ambition that sit very well with the goals we have for the company, whilst he is of course already a well-known face of Goffs UK.

“I’m pleased that the existing team are so supportive of his promotion and very much look forward to working with Tim as we continue to grow and evolve Goffs.”

Saldier sidelined

Saldier, winner of the Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle, will not run until the New Year after trainer Willie Mullins revealed he was not happy with the Rich Ricci-owned five-year-old after the race.

Mullins told the Racing Post: “Saldier didn’t come out of his Morgiana win as well as I’d hoped. I’m not 100 per cent happy with him so we decided not to enter him for the Matheson Hurdle on December 29. Hopefully he will be back in action early in the New Year.”
