A nomination to outstanding stayer Stradivarius is one of the lots being offered at a charity auction during RoR’s Racing to Cricket event at Wormsley cricket ground this Sunday, September 3.
The live auction, led by charity auctioneer Martin Pope, will be at 1.30pm but bids can be made in advance by 6pm on Saturday, September 2 by email to rorauction@ror.org.uk.
Stradivarius, now based at the National Stud, was a brilliant performer for owner-breeder Bjorn Nielsen, winning the Gold Cup three times in a career that produced 20 victories and earnings of over £3.45 million.
Other fantastic lots that have been donated by RoR supporters include a money can’t buy directors’ box experience for Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge in December, donated by Chelsea Vice-President and racehorse owner Alan Spence, and a pair of tickets for the 2024 cinch Tennis Championships with exclusive admission to the members’ enclosure at Queen’s Club, donated by owner-breeder Chris Wright.
Racing fans will also have the chance to bid for a fully catered box for up to 14 guests at Aintree on October 29, 2023donated by Robert Waley-Cohen. There is also a trip for four people to the Punchestown Festival in May 2024 with a tour of the Irish National Stud and overnight stay, provided by Goffs.
Now in its fourth year, the day’s cricket action will be enjoyed by over 200 guests attending the fundraising day at the private estate of the Getty family. Teams playing represent the yards of Charlie Hills, Richard Hannon, Ben Pauling, Jack Channon, Warren Greatrex, Windmill Racing and the two-time tournament winning team from Nicky Henderson’s Seven Barrows yard. In addition, the day’s principal sponsor and last year’s runners-up Irwin Mitchell will field a team.
