Edited press release

The Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for the 2022 RoR Showcase live on Saturday 23rd April at Hartpury University and College in Gloucestershire. Supported by the Horserace Betting Levy Board, the RoR Showcase is dedicated to displaying the versatility of retrained racehorses.

The last live event took place in 2019 at Hartpury and once more, this year’s showcase returns with a fantastic day’s schedule as experts give live demos and advice in showing, dressage, eventing, endurance, showjumping, as well as displays in polo, horseball, side-saddle and western riding.

The action-packed RoR programme at Hartpury features a total of eleven demonstrations in the main indoor arena, as well as a range of more up-close clinics in the second indoor arena.  In addition, through the day visitors will have the opportunity to seek specialist advice in the RoR Ask the Experts Education Zone, when the day’s experts and trainers will also be on-hand for one-to-one Q & A sessions.

One of the most popular disciplines for former racehorses is showcased with top showing producer Katie Jerram-Hunnable, who once again will be providing incredible instruction and tips on how to improve ringcraft and overall performance in the show ring. Visitors will see Katie work with former star of the racetrack Coneygree, winner of the 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Another star retrained racehorse joining the showcase day is HM The Queen’s former racehorse Quadrille, the winner of the 2020 RoR Horse of the Year and RoR Elite Champion. The Queen’s dressage Champion is ridden and trained by Louise Robson, the founder of Thoroughbred Dressage which works exclusively retraining thoroughbreds, as she says; ‘from flying past to flying change.’  Louise will also be joined by experienced BE and National Team Chase rider Charlotte Alexander and her former Grade 1 winning racehorse Saphir Du Rheu, to see how they train with the former racehorse and work as they prepare for BD elementary competitions this season.

This year’s RoR Showcase welcomes young talented British showjumper Will Fletcher, who won gold as part of the young rider team at the European Championships in the main arena. The 21-year-old son of Tina and Graham Fletcher has represented Great Britain on senior Nations Cup teams, and hosts a weekly showjumping podcast.

Instruction for former racehorses looking to progress to eventing will be another unmissable session with Canadian born Di Burgess who brings over thirty years of coaching experience. Di is a Level 1 and Level 2 Canadian Equestrian Federation accredited coach (BHS II equivalent) and an accredited Pony Club instructor.

Once more this year’s RoR Showcase offers visitors something completely different with another stunning display of Western Riding from top instructor Emma Chapman, who will once more dazzle the crowd with her style and control of her own former racehorse Midnight Robbery.  There will also be an introduction to Endurance and Polo, as well a display from the Ledbury Hunt with hounds and a finale with the RoR Quadrille Display to Music Team.

Di Arbuthnot, RoR Chief Executive explains: “This is a fantastic opportunity to come along and meet a host of experts and industry professionals all under one roof. We hope too that with tickets available to buy in advance for just £15, this is an affordable day out packed with inspiration and ideas for both those current and any potential new owners of former racehorses.”
