Chris Wright, owner of Stratford Place Stud

TBA board member Chris Wright was celebrating on Sunday following the victory of Zaidan in the Hong Kong Classic Cup, a domestic Group 1 race over nine furlongs at Sha Tin.

The four-year-old Street Cry colt was bred the US division of Wright’s Stratford Place Stud, which is based near Cheltenham. He is out of the Listed-placed Atticus mare Element Of Truth, whose three-year-old filly by Mizzen Mast, Let It Be Me, is in training for Wright with Jonathan Pease in France. She currently has a yearling colt by Tapit.

Zaidan, who was purchased as a yearling at Keeneland by Anthony Stroud for $200,000, started his career in the colours of Saeed Manana when trained in Newmarket by Clive Brittain. At two, he went to Royal Ascot on the back of a sole maiden victory and duly landed the Chesham Stakes.

Among Stratford Place Stud’s other successful graduates are Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Donativum, US Grade 3 winners Worldly and Moth Ball, Grade 1 runner-up Sarafan and last year’s Listed winner Waveband.
