Vanessa became the first winner for her St Leger-winning sire Sixties Icon when making all to land the five-furlong seller by five lengths at Musselburgh on Easter Sunday on her third start.

Trained by Mick Channon, the West Ilsley handler is also the filly’s co-breeder in partnership with her owner Norman Court Stud, where Sixties Icon stands. Vanessa, who made her debut on the opening day of the Flat season at Kempton and was subsequently placed at Redcar two days later, is out of the Bahamian Bounty mare Fly Butterfly.

Literato, off the mark with his first runner

Also on the scoresheet in the first-season sires’ competition is Haras de la Reboursière et de Montaigu’s Literato, whose first runner Literalia won over 1000m at La Teste de Buch on Sunday.

The 2007 Champion Stakes winner has just 34 juveniles to represent him this year and Literalia, who is trained by Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte, was the second top price among his yearlings to sell last year when fetching €70,000 at Arqana’s August Sale. She is out of Djayapoura, by Fabulous Dancer, who has already produced Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte winner Centifolio.
