David Redvers’ ambition of turning the family farm at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire into one of the more important stud farms in Europe is well on its way to being achieved, with four-time Group 1 hero Roaring Lion newly installed on the roster for 2019.

The son of Kitten’s Joy, purchased by Redvers for $160,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September Sale in 2016, came to the fore this season with victories in the Coral-Eclipse, Juddmonte International, Irish Champion Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in the silks of Qatar Racing.

Tweenhills has been in the Redvers family for several decades and was converted into a public stud in 1995. Over the years, stallions to have stood at the stud include Ishiguru, Lucky Story, Sleeping Indian and Trade Fair.

Roaring Lion’s breeder delighted to witness Champions Day success

Redvers, speaking at the Qatar Racing Stallion Parade on November 15, said: “This is the family farm and I’ve always wanted to turn it into one of the leading operations in the country.

“Roaring Lion has put us on the map. To be able to realise that dream is fantastic and it has been done a lot quicker than I thought we’d do it.

“To be able to stand one champion is one thing, but [to] stand a Cartier Award-winning horse who has been crowned best three-year-old in the world and a horse who has come out and fought every fight is quite something.”

Roaring Lion’s debut fee was also unveiled on Thursday, with the three-year-old to stand next year at £40,000.

Joining Roaring Lion as a newcomer to Tweenhills for 2019 is the top-class miler Lightning Spear, a son of Pivotal who final broke through for a deserved Group 1 victory in this year’s Sussex Stakes for trainer David Simcock. He will stand at a fee of £8,500.

Another new recruit for Redvers and the Qatar Racing team to look forward to welcoming to the UK later this year is Australian sire sensation Zoustar, who will command a fee of £25,000 in 2019.

The son of Northern Meteor has hit the headlines in recent weeks thanks to supplying the first three home in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, a race in which Zoustar was successful in 2013.

Havana Gold, sire of Group 1-winning sprinter Havana Grey, remains at an unchanged fee of £15,000 while Charm Spirit returns to the Gloucestershire operation priced at £17,500, having stood for €20,000 at Haras de Bonneval in France this year.

Hot Streak, whose first yearlings have been well received in the sales ring ahead of them making their debuts on the track next year, completes the roster and has had his fee increased from £6,000 to £7,000 for 2019.
