Overbury Stud has recently taken charge of the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free winner Cityscape, who has been bought by a partnership to stand at the Gloucestershire farm alongside Delegator, Kayf Tara and Schiaparelli.
A Selkirk half-brother to Bated Breath, who joined Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud last season and was inundated with nomination requests, Cityscape also won three Group 3 contests for Roger Charlton, as well as finishing runner-up to Excelebration in the Prix Jacques le Marois and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
“He has the talent, looks and pedigree to be a top-class sire,” said Overbury Stud’s Simon Sweeting. “Selkirk was a hugely influential stallion. I believe that Cityscape, who is a complete outcross to Northern Dancer and hails from the family of champions Redoute’s Choice and El Gran Senor, can pick up where Selkirk left off.”
As well as Cityscape, the stallion ranks in Britain in 2014 will be boosted by the retirement of Lethal Force and Intello to Cheveley Park Stud, and Al Kazeem to the Royal Studs. Champion Stakes winner Farrh will stand for Darley at Dalham Hall Stud, and Havana Gold joins Tweenhills Farm and Stud. Finjaan is another new recruit for first-time stallion farm Gazeley Stud, while Lanwades is taking charge of two new faces from North America – Leroidesanimaux and Derby winner North Light.
In Ireland, next year’s new stallions include treble Classic winner Camelot and the first son of War Front to retire in Europe, Declaration Of War, who will have one last hurrah at the Breeders’ Cup. Reckless Abandon and Dawn Approach are off to Kildangan Stud, and Tally-Ho Stud has recruited top sprinter Society Rock.
