Dettori lands another Group 1

Frankie Dettori guided the Jean-Pierre Carvalho-trained Alson to victory in the Group 1 Criterium International at Longchamp on Sunday in what turned out to be match with the Aidan O’Brien-trained Armory.

There was a frightening incident in the stalls with the supplemented Lady Penelope somersaulting before being withdrawn. It left just Alson and Armory to contest the 7f event.

Dettori’s mount looked comfortable on the heavy going and as Donnacha O’Brien’s partner laboured, Alson galloped clear, coming home 20 lengths to the good.

In the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak, the Martyn Meade-trained Technician continued on an upward curve when he held off the challenge of Call The Wind under Arc-winning rider Pierre-Charles Boudot, claiming a first triumph at the top level.

Pour Moi to stand at Haras de Cercy

Derby winner Pour Moi is on the move from Coolmore’s Grange Stud to Haras de Cercy in France for the 2020 breeding season.

Among the progeny he has supplied since retiring to stud is 2017 Derby winner Wings Of Eagles and the Group 3-winning sprinter Only Mine.

Haras de Cercy’s Andree Cypres said: “We have signed the contract and are very happy to collaborate with the Coolmore team in standing Pour Moi. He should arrive around mid-November.

“The way he won the Derby was phenomenal and we’re always looking for new bloodlines, and were particularly keen on having a son of Montjeu, who has proved to be such a positive influence in jumps breeding. He will certainly suit many breeders here.”

Today’s racing
