Night Of Thunder returns to Kildangan Stud
Exciting sire Night Of Thunder will return to Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland for 2020.
The son of Dubawi has spent the past two seasons at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket and his first crop of racing age this year includes the stakes winners Lady Penelope, Sun Power and Thunderspeed.
Speaking to The Irish Field, Darley’s Director of Stallions Sam Bullard said: “The outstanding success that Night Of Thunder has achieved with his first crop is testament to the support he received from Irish breeders during his first season.
“We’re confident that his return to Kildangan Stud will ensure we are able to secure him a very good quality book of mares for 2020.”
Book 2 begins
The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale continues today at 10am with Book 2 running for three days at Park Paddocks in Newmarket.
Previous stars to have emerged from this auction include Group 1-winning sprinters Battaash and Ten Sovereigns.
Champions Day track switch likely
Officials at Ascot may switch Saturday’s Champion Stakes and two other races from the round course to the inner track to ensure racing takes place on the best ground possible.
The outer track, which is used for all of Ascot’s Flat fixtures, has been left waterlogged after the recent spell of wet weather, with 30mm of rain falling over the weekend.
Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course, said: “The weather forecast is unsettled all week and connections of prospective runners are reminded of the race conditions, relating to the round course races.
“Racing on the outer course on Saturday may yet be possible but we have the option to switch. With waterlogged in today’s going description, if we were racing today, we would be on the inner course.”
Desert Encounter strikes again in Canadian International
He may have left the gates slower than his rivals but the David Simcock-trained Desert Encounter still proved a class apart in the Grade 1 Canadian International at Woodbine on Saturday.
Andrea Atzeni oozed confidence on the seven-year-old as the six-runner field turned for him and weaved his way from last to first with ease, hitting the front well inside the final furlong and scoring readily by half a length.
Desert Encounter, who has now won his last four races, was following up his victory in the 2018 Canadian International and took his earnings past £1 million for owner Abdulla Al Mansoori.
All Flat fixtures
In Britain today there are meetings from Musselburgh, Windsor, Yarmouth and Wolverhampton (evening aw) while in Ireland, Gowran Park stages an eight-race card.
