Enable heads to York
Khalid Abdullah’s outstanding mare Enable is the star act on the second day of the Ebor Festival at York racecourse as she lines up in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks.
She’ll face three opponents in what is likely to be her final appearance on a British racecourse before she tackles the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.
Thursday’s card at York also features the Group 2 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes, where owner-breeder Philip Wilkins could be provided with another memorable day if his Liberty Beach is able to strike in the six-furlong contest.
At York on Wednesday, the Juddmonte International went the way of Japan in a thrilling duel between the Aidan O’Brien-trained three-year-old and older foe Crystal Ocean. You can read our report of the action here.
Broome purchased by Japanese connections
Japanese owner Masaaki Matushima has bought Derby fourth Broome and is aiming his new charge at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, with legendary jockey Yutaka Take set to take the ride.
Broome will continue to be trained by Aidan O’Brien and may possibly take in the St Leger at Doncaster next month before the Arc.
Roaring Lion continuing recovery
Qatar Racing’s David Redvers on Wednesday shared a video on Twitter of Roaring Lion continuing his recovery from dual colic surgery in New Zealand.
The clip, which is just over a minute long, shows the son of Kitten’s Joy displaying a healthy appetite and picking happily away at some hay in his stall.

Irish Champions weekend offer for The Thoroughbred Club members
Courtesy of the ITBA, members of The Thoroughbred Club are able to attend the Longines Irish Champions weekend for €90.
The package includes admission to both days of the racing and overnight accommodation at the Talbot Hotel.

Universal moves to Newmarket
Stallion Universal has been transferred from Haras de Corlay and is now standing at Sally Forster’s Groomsbridge Stud near Newmarket.
The son of Dubawi, who was trained by Mark Johnston to win the Jockey Club Stakes and Princess of Wales’s Stakes in 2013, began his stud career at Yorton Farm in 2014 before standing at Haras de Corlay this year.
Universal will stand at a fee of £1,500 for thoroughbreds and will also be available to cover sport horses.
