Today’s racing

Champion jockey Richard Johnson returns to riding today with two rides at Musselburgh following a spell on the sidelines.

Johnson, who broke his arm in a fall at Exeter in January, is slated to ride Made For You in the 1m7½f handicap hurdle and Dubai Guest in the bumper on Musselburgh’s card. Both are trained by Olly Murphy.

Jumps cards are staged at Ludlow and Clonmel (Ireland) today while there are all-weather meetings from Newcastle and Chelmsford. Taunton’s jumps fixture is subject to passing an 7:30am precautionary inspection.

Bowen to miss Cheltenham

Young jockey Sean Bowen will miss this year’s Cheltenham Festival after suffering a broken collarbone at Kempton on Saturday.

Bowen, who had been riding the Harry Fry-trained Just A Sting in the handicap chase when unseated at the sixth fence, told the Racing Post: “I saw Geoff Graham, a specialist in Cardiff on shoulders and that area, on Monday and will go back to see him in three weeks to that day.

“I’ll get another scan then and that might be four weeks from the injury. It’s the worst time to be out, but that’s life and I’ll be back for Aintree’s Grand National meeting.

“I knew I’d done it straight away and as soon as I hit the floor I knew it was gone.”
