Today’s racing

The Grade 3 Quevega Mares’ Hurdle opens Punchestown’s card today and both Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott are double-handed in the 2m4f contest.

Mullins saddles Elfile, who runs in the colours of Kenneth Alexander which have been carried to victory by his outstanding mare Honeysuckle, and Laurina, who has been pulled up on her last two starts.

Elliott’s duo are Black Tears, winner of a mares’ handicap hurdle at Leopardstown earlier this month, and Surin, who was brought down in that race.

The field is completely by the Jessica Harrington-trained Emily Moon.

Doncaster and Ludlow race over jumps today while there are all-weather meetings from Kempton and Newcastle.

Cyrname still rated the best

Despite a tired fall in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase on Saturday, the Paul Nicholls-trained Cyrname is still Britain’s highest-rated chaser on a mark of 177.

Traffic Fluide, who also fell at the final fence, has seen his mark risen 5lb to 154.

BHA Handicapper Michael Harris wrote in his handicappers’ blog: “Traffic Fluide would surely have gone very close but for falling and he’s now back on 154, the rating he was allocated after his Ascot handicap success on his last run back in 2018.

“I have the winner running below the level of his previous Ascot win and historically his performance of 158 is the lowest winning rating for the race in over ten years. That said, Riders Onthe Storm still has the scope to improve further under more optimal conditions.”
