A new mixed auction will be held by Tattersalls in Newmarket in August, primarily comprising of horses and fillies in training as well as breeding stock.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said: “The decision to stage an August Sale is entirely in response to the unique Covid-19 related circumstances we all find ourselves facing.

“We were acutely aware as we took entries for the July Sale that the absence of racing was posing major difficulties in terms of assessing the merits of stock and what was suitable for entry in the July Sale.

“We spoke with a wide cross section of vendors and it became clear that there was significant demand for an extra fixture to accommodate requirements related to the impact of the global pandemic, which has caused so much disruption in every walk of life.

“In a normal year there would be a major yearling sale in the week we have chosen for the August Sale, but with that sale moving to a later date we have been able to react positively and collaboratively for the benefits of all concerned.”

Jojo Rabbit bought by Phoenix Ladies

The Archie Watson-trained Jojo Rabbit has been purchased privately by the Phoenix Ladies Syndicate ahead of his run in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.

The two-year-old son of Due Diligence broke his maiden at Wolverhampton by an impressive four and a quarter lengths last week.

Pamela Cordina, Phoenix Ladies Syndicate Principal, said: “We’re thrilled to have bought a two-year-old with such promise.

“His two performances really caught our attention and we’re sure there is plenty more to come. He looks a naturally speedy colt and the way he put his rivals to bed at Wolverhampton was extremely impressive.

“We’re also delighted to have a talented young trainer like Archie as part of the team and we are confident this is the start of a successful journey together.”
