The Qatar Goodwood Festival concludes its five-day meeting today with the Stewards’ Cup taking centre stage. A full field of 28 is set to contest the six-furlong event.

Among the runners to keep an eye on is the Kevin Ryan-trained Hey Jonesy, who was last seen getting the better of fellow Stewards’ Cup contender Summerghand by a neck in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot.

William Haggas and Tom Marquand, who struck with One Master in the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood on Friday, will combine with Nahaarr, who was an impressive two and a quarter length winner of a six-furlong handicap at Newbury earlier this month.

Also in the field is course and distance winner Chairmanoftheboard, the David O’Meara-trained Gulliver and Richard Hannon’s Watan, who will be partnered by Ryan Moore.

Goodwood’s card today also features the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes. The four runners in the 1m6f event are Manuela De Vega, Enbihaar, Cabaletta and Snow.

Rest of today’s action

There is plenty of action for racing aficionados to watch today as Chepstow, Hamilton, Newmarket and Galway race on the Flat, while Kilbeggan hosts a jumps meeting.

Neil Walsh joins Goffs

Goffs has appointed Neil Walsh to its bloodstock team in a vendor liaison role. He also joins the inspection panel for all National Hunt and Flat sales.

Walsh, who had spent 12 years at Tattersalls Ireland as Head of Bloodstock and Director of Bloodstock until February, also has experience in Horse Racing Ireland’s Racing Department.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said: “Neil is an excellent addition to the dynamic bloodstock and inspection teams at Goffs, and I have no doubt he is a perfect fit, combining experience and knowledge with a hands-on approach that is the hallmark of the day Goffs.

“His experience, horsemanship and passion for racing perfectly complements the current team and aligns very well with our ambitious business development plans.

“Neil has proven success in sourcing top quality sales horses under both codes and a strong background in customer relations which will only enhance the unrivalled Goffs service to our valued vendors.”

Walsh added: “I am delighted to join Goffs and look forward to helping build on the company’s impressive progress with both their Flat and National Hunt sales.

“The company’s reputation for integrity and customer care perfectly chime with my core values, whilst the spectacular success and huge growth in market share of the Land Rover Sale over the past decade is a perfect example of the drive and ambition of the team at Goffs.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I take on this new role and look forward to contributing to the superb reputation of Goffs across their wide portfolio of market leading sales.”
