British racing is set to resume with an eight-race card at Newcastle on June 1 after the BHA published its initial schedule for the remainder of 2020.
In an update on Thursday evening, the BHA also stated that Kempton, Yarmouth, Newmarket, Lingfield, Haydock and Chelmsford will be the other tracks to host meetings in the sport’s first eight days.
Newmarket’s meeting on June 5 will feature the Group 1 Coronation Cup, moved from Epsom, as well as the Brigadier Gerard, Paradise Stakes and Abernant Stakes. Lingfield’s card on the same day will feature its traditional Oaks and Derby trials.
The only Group 1 race that is set to be lost from the British racing calendar is the Lockinge Stakes.
The update also confirmed that there will be changes to handicap measures when racing resumes, with horses eligible for a rating if they win and race again or if they finish in the first six in two starts. The BHA’s handicapping team is already assigning ratings to horses that meet the new criteria.
No regional restrictions on runners will be in place for the resumption while an update about foreign-trained runners is expected on Friday.
