Admiral Nelson, the record-setting top lot at last year’s Goffs UK Premier Sale, made the perfect start to his racing career on Friday with an impressive debut win for Aidan O’Brien in the Tally-Ho Stud Irish EBF Maiden at the Curragh.
Sent off at 5/1, Admiral Nelson could be seen travelling particularly well behind the leaders and ultimately had to be only pushed out by Wayne Lordon to win well from his favoured stablemate Merchants Quay.
The Kingman colt set a new sale record of £440,000 when sold out of the Hillwood Stud draft to MV Magnier at last year’s Goffs UK Premier Sale in Doncaster. The price smashed the previous record of £380,000 set the previous year.
Bred in Britain by Bob and Pauline Scott at their Parks Farm Stud, the colt becomes the second winner out of the fast filly Shamandar, winner of the 2009 Listed Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury. The three-time winning daughter of Exceed And Excel is a half-sister to Listed scorer Hung Parliament and from the further family of the top Dubai-based sprinter Reynaldothewizard.
