This year’s Tattersalls December Sale will feature a partial dispersal of stock from the late Duke of Roxburghe’s breeding operation.

A total of seven mares and sevens foal will be consigned by Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber’s Kiltinan Castle Stud on behalf of the outfit.

At this month’s Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale the Duchess of Roxburghe, Virginia Wynn-Williams, after the sale of the 1,100,000gns Frankel colt out of Attraction, revealed that the operation was due to reduce its involvement in the sport.

She said: “Our youngest son, George, is very keen. He has a real passion for racing, and we are very keen to carry on the stud. But it will be a smaller operation and sadly it will not be based at Floors – the mares will be boarded elsewhere.”

The draft includes the Listed-placed Galileo mare Hibiscus, who is in foal to sire of the moment Siyouni and is a sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf scorer Line Of Duty, and a half-sister to Royal Ascot heroine Onasiss.

There is also the chance for buyers to invest in one of the Duke’s famed families as Grade 3-placed Federation, in foal to Starspangledbanner, and the Cape Cross mare Fusion are themselves half-sisters to the great Attraction.

Also set to go under the hammer is the Listed-winning Twitch, covered by Magna Grecia, Lady Glinka, Deep Inside and Merry Jaunt. These five mares will also have foals go through the ring during the foal section of the December sale which begins on November 27.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said: “The late Duke of Roxburghe was a passionate and hugely successful owner-breeder and left a lasting legacy which was never more obvious than at Book 1 of the recent October Yearling Sales, where two of the six Floors yearlings sold for more than one million guineas.

“As with so many dispersals it is tinged with sadness, but we are proud that Tattersalls has been entrusted with the Floors Stud partial dispersal and confident that it will be amongst the highlights of Europe’s premier foal and breeding stock sale.”

Kiltinan Castle Stud’s General Manager Simon Marsh added: “We are honoured to have been asked to handle the partial dispersal on behalf of Floors Stud.

“Guy Roxburghe was a great friend and the mares and foals being sold are a wonderful and lasting testament to his commitment and success as a Classic-winning breeder.”
