Champion jockey Oisin Murphy will not be able to reapply for his licence for 14 months after admitting guilt to a series of rules breaches at a BHA independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday.

In a judicial hearing chaired by His Honour James O’Mahony and heard in the presence of Rachel Spearing and Anthony Connell, Murphy was found to have broken Covid protocols, misled BHA officials and acted in a manner prejudicial to the proper integrity, conduct and good reputation of the sport.

Murphy was given three 11-month suspensions relating to the two Covid breaches and his conduct, all to run concurrently, and was fined £31,111. He must also serve 100 days for alcohol breaches; ten days in relation to an alcohol positive at Chester on May 5 and a further 90 days for another such positive recorded at Newmarket on October 8.

Murphy, 26, relinquished his licence on December 8 last year. He has not race ridden since and the ban has been backdated to that date.
