Stallion announcements for the 2015 breeding season are now coming thick and fast with Yorton Farm Stud and Mickley Stud both having announced new signings this week.

Monsun stallion Gentlewave, who previously stood in France at Haras du Thenney, is to joing the team at Yorton Farm at Welshpool having been bought by James and Jean Potter.

The Italian Derby winner, now 11, retired to stud in 2007 and has sired more than 100 winners on the Flat and over jumps, including Grade 2-winning hurdler Pearl Swan.

“We were very keen to stand Gentlewave and are indebted to James and Jean for securing him – they have been hugely supportive of our plans for Yorton Farm Stud,” said Yorton’s David Futter.

“Obtaining a son of Monsun to stand in Britain is further good news for breeders, and this one is a sire of black-type winners in Britain and France. He has the best of German bloodlines, is very typical of his sire, has great bone and depth, is an athletic walker and has a wonderful temperament. He fits every criteria for National Hunt breeders.

“We look forward to showing him to breeders, and he will be available for viewing by members of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association when they visit the stud on Saturday, September 13.”

As a full-brother to leading sire Shamrdal, Roger Brookhouse’s Yorgunnabelucky is an interesting dual-purpose addition to Mickley Stud’s roster in Shropshire. He currently has his first crop of foals on the ground, including a half-brother to Grade 1 winner The Liquidator.

“We’re delighted to have been given the opportunity to stand Yorgunnableucky for Mr Brookhouse and I’ve been very impressed with his first foals,” said Mickley Stud owner Richard Kent.

“The Liquidator’s half-brother is here at Mickley and he’s the nicest foal we have on the farm. We look forward to supporting the stallion with some of our own mares and encourage breeders to come to see him. He’s a good-looking horse with scope, presence and a very good temperament.”
