Rathbarry Stud’s freshman sire Lilbourne Lad celebrated his first winner from just his second runner on Monday when the Rod Millman-trained Handytalk narrowly prevailed in the five-furlong maiden at Windsor.

Bred in Ireland by Edmond Kinane and Donal Sweeney from the unraced Where Or When mare Dancing With Stars, the April-born colt traces back to one of Meon Valley Stud’s foundation mares, Reprocolor, who is his fifth dam. He realised €16,500 as a foal before being sold as a yearling at the DBS Premier Sale for £32,000.

Lilbourne Lad, who stands alongside his sire Acclamation at Rathbarry, raced solely at two, winning the Group 2 Railway Stakes among his three victories and concluding his racing career by finishing runner-up to Crusade in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. His stock have proved popular at the sales to date with his first crop of yearlings having returned an average price of 31,448gns for 82 sold from a stud fee of €7,500.
