Having announced last week that he is to cut down the number of horses he has in training, three-time Grand National-winning owner Trevor Hemmings will hold a dispersal of 56 horses at next month’s Goffs UK September Horses in Training Sale.
Hemmings’ colours have been a mainstay of the National Hunt sphere for a number of years, most notably at Aintree’s Grand National where Hedgehunter (2005), Ballabriggs (2011) and Many Clouds (2015) all secured famous victories.
The impact of coronavirus on Hemmings’ personal life and business interest are factors in the decision to cut back the number of horses he has in training.
His Racing Manager Michael Meagher, speaking last week, said: “The effect of Covid-19 is part of it. It’s a big reduction, but he’s still going to be involved.
“He’s a bit locked up in the Isle of Man now. It’s obviously disappointing he can’t leave the island and go racing. We’re not certain about which trainers Mr Hemmings will continue to employ as yet.”
Among the horses set to go under the hammer next month are the Grade 2-winning Mount Mews, Grade 3 performer Stoney Mountain, Burbank, Burtons Well and a number of unraced stocks by stallions such as Fame And Glory, Scorpion and Cloudings. All horses will be sold without reserve.
