Having landed a first Group victory at Newbury last month in the Hungerford Stakes, Dream Of Dreams continued his progression as he captured a first win at the highest level when running out the winner of Haydock’s Sprint Cup on Saturday.
Sent off the 5-2 favourite, Dream Of Dreams was sent to make his challenge over a furlong from home by jockey Oisin Murphy as the Clive Cox-trained Golden Horde and Tim Easterby’s Art Power began to fade away after leading their respective groups.
After hitting the front, Dream Of Dreams did edge left but that could not dent his performance as he pulled clear to win by one and a quarter lengths from Glen Shiel in second with Golden Horde a neck back in third.
It was a third success in the race for trainer Sir Michael Stoute after Green Desert in 1986 and Ajdal in 1987, and a second strike for champion jockey Oisin Murphy after partnering The Tin Man to success in 2018.
Murphy said: “Thanks so much to Sir Michael, his team and the owner [Saeed Suhail] for putting me on him. I’m over the moon as it’s hard to win Group 1s and this horse is an absolute star.
“He was explosive on his last start over seven furlongs in the Hungerford at Newbury, but I had no worries [coming back to six]. If he jumped and travelled, I thought he could win.”
