Michael Buckley, a respected and much loved member of Darley’s Irish team, died suddenly at his home in Kildare on Saturday, January 12. He was 45.

The Nominations Manager for Kildangan Stud, he had been employed by Darley since 2000. A statement issued by the stud on Sunday morning paid tribute to Buckley, describing him as “a hugely popular and widely respected figure in the European bloodstock business”.

Joe Osborne, the Managing Director of Kildangan Stud, said, “We are all shocked and heartbroken about this terrible news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mick’s wife Caitriona, his sons Jamie, Andrew and Robbie, his parents Donal and Pauline, his brothers, his sister and his extended family.”

Buckley’s funeral is to take place on Wednesday, January 16 at 11am in The Church of Our Lady and St Joseph, Caragh. Darley has cancelled its scheduled stallion open days at Kildangan Stud on Friday and Saturday as a mark of respect.
