It’s never a surprise to see the offspring of Galileo dominate yearling sales, and two of the three yearlings by him sold at Arqana’s October Sale filled the top two slots.

Haras d’Etreham’s colt out of the Rainbow Quest mare En Public sold for €210,000 to Guillaume Gorse’s Hautieres Bloodstock, while David Redvers went to €200,000 for a filly out of the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Spinola (Spinning World).

The Galileo filly will join Sheikh Fahad Al-Thani’s string, as will a full-brother to Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden, for whom Redvers paid €130,000.

Jean-Claude Rouget was the sale’s leading buyer

The sole Montjeu yearling in the sale – a colt out of the Spectrum mare Daspectra consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux – went the way of Freddy Head for €150,000. The trainer also signed for Monceaux’s Invincible Spirit colt out of L’Enjoleuse, who boasts Montjeu as his broodmare sire and was knocked down for €140,000.

The three-day auction posted gains in most sectors, with a 25% increase in turnover to €10,935,000 and a 3.5% boost for the average price, which was €31,696. The median held steady at €24,000. The clearance rate also rose fractionally to 72%, with 345 of the 478 yearlings offered finding a buyer.

Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget was the leading buyer, with 18 yearlings bought for €738,000, while Haras d’Etreham topped the vendors’ list, selling 27 for a total of €1,043,000.

Myboycharlie may not have started his stud career in France, but members of his first crop have proved as popular there as in England and Ireland this year. Eight yearlings were sold at Arqana for an average of €45,000, which augurs well for the son of Danetime’s future, having been moved from the National Stud to stand at Haras du Mézeray for the 2012 season.
