Top juvenile sprinter A’Ali will stand at Newsells Park Stud for the 2022 season after it was announced on Tuesday that the Royston-based operation had purchased a significant stake in the horse.

It was previously announced that the son of Society Rock would stand at Meadow Farm Stud in Wiltshire.

Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, A’Ali commanded £135,000 as a Goffs UK breezer from Stroud Coleman Bloodstock and went on to become one of the fastest juveniles of his generation, blitzing the field to win the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot on only his second start before adding the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Deauville and Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster.

As a three-year-old, A’Ali trained on to win the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown Park before travelling to the Curragh to capture the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes. He was also placed behind Battaash in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

An injury sustained in his sole run at four, when placed in the Group 2 Meydan Sprint, forced his retirement.

Commenting on A’Ali’s switch to Newsells Park Stud, Stud General Manager, Julian Dollar said: “When Gary [Coffey] and I saw A’Ali at the National Stud, we both commented on what an absolute belter of a horse he was. He really fulfils a niche for speed and precocity, which the commercial breeder is looking for.

“He’s absolutely gorgeous to look at, with a wonderful walk and a beautiful temperament. He’ll be very easy for breeders to use and should throw a lovely model, if they look anything like him. Newsells Park Stud have purchased a significant percentage of A’Ali, who was already owned by a passionate group of shareholders, including his original owner Shaikh Duaij. All are keen to give him great support, so we’re excited about this new partnership.”

He added: “What also works for us is that A’Ali really fills a void left by the sale of Equiano last year and helps to balance our boutique stallion roster of Nathaniel and Without Parole. We now stand one of Europe’s most proven and successful middle distance sires in Nathaniel, together with one of Frankel’s fastest sons at stud in Without Parole. Together with a “lightning fast” two-year-old in A’Ali, they offer breeders the full spectrum of class, stamina, speed and precocity and we welcome breeders through our doors to come and see them.”

Trainers Simon & Ed Crisford and his jockey, Frankie Dettori, all paid tribute to A’Ali earlier this month, with Dettori commenting: “He was certainly one of the fastest two-year-olds I have ridden. I was lucky enough to ride both Mehmas and Ardad, and A’Ali must have a great chance of replicating their success at stud.”
